GRACE RIVER RANCH -- BEST PRACTICES & FIREARM SAFETY

As Grace River Ranch (GRR) has evolved, our operations and practices have also evolved.  To ensure everyone’s safety, we would like to take this opportunity to share the GRR best practices.

Fundamental Firearm Safety Requirements

1.    Treat all firearms as if they are loaded at all times.

2.    Never point a firearm at anything you are not willing to shoot or destroy.

3.    Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until your sights are on the target and you are ready to shoot.

4.    Be sure of your target, what is in line with it, and what is beyond it.

5.    Be sure you are always using the correct ammunition for your firearm.

6.    Exercise extreme caution when transferring or handing a loaded firearm to another person.

7.    GRR guests are asked to never hunt or shoot if under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any substance that impairs judgement.

8.    GRR guests are encouraged to wear eye and hearing protection when on the range or hunting. If you do not have any, it can be provided.

9.    If any problem should occur with your weapon while on a hunt, keep the jammed or malfunctioning firearm pointed in a safe direction while fixing the problem. If you are using a GRR weapon, please ask for assistance.

10.  GRR guests are welcome to bring their own firearms and whatever ammunition they believe they will need for the trip, however we ask to keep these to reasonable numbers.

Grace River Ranch – Best Practices

1.  We ask that all hunters engage their firearms at the range before hunting to ensure both accuracy and operation.

2.  We ask that all firearms remain cleared with the breech open when not being fired.

3.  We ask that GRR guests clean up the range area when they are finished shooting (pick up all brass, remove paper from target board, put away shooting bags, etc.).

4.  We ask that no Class III weapons be fired without communication and coordination with GRR representatives.

5.  We ask that our GRR guests not pursue a wounded animal without a GRR representative present.

6.  We ask that high-powered rifles ONLY be used when hunting in the blinds, sighting at the range or when a GRR representative is with you (top drive, etc.).

7.  We ask that all GRR guests communicate and coordinate any vehicle or ranger movements BEFORE leaving the lodge (ensures the safety of our hunters and guest on the ranch).

8.  We ask that when touring the ranch on any UTV or in any vehicle they do NOT take high-powered rifles.  A handgun or 410 shotgun will be provided if desired.

9.  We ask that any GRR guests under the age of 18 be accompanied and supervised.

10.  Please ask a GRR representative for clarification if you have any questions about GRR Range/ Hunting Best Practices.
